How Emily became a Property Lawyer with Movera’s Training Academy

Meet Emily, a Trainee Property Lawyer at Movera who recently completed the Property Lawyer Training Academy. Emily spent nearly a year working in Movera’s Client Relationships Team before applying for the Academy. Her motivation for moving into property law was clear from the outset.

“I have always wanted a career in the legal sector, however university just was not for me,” she said. “I was excited that there was a clear career progression path from my previous role into my current one, and one that did not require a degree.”

What drew her most to the new role was the chance to take on meaningful responsibility in a client-facing environment.

“I loved the idea of managing my own case load, and building relationships with clients all while being able to use the legal knowledge I had learned in the academy.”

Although changing teams can be daunting, Emily found the transition surprisingly smooth. “I was really nervous about joining a new team, as I absolutely loved my old team,” she said. “However it was nowhere near as daunting as I imagined and I have fitted right in with my new team.”

Since moving into her new position, Emily is thriving. “I am really enjoying managing my own workload,” she said. “I am also loving building relationships with my clients, especially knowing buying a house is such a big part in most peoples lives.”

Of course, stepping into a legal role came with a few challenges — particularly around self-confidence and technical knowledge. “I would say the biggest learning curve has been trusting that what I am doing is right, and believing in myself a little bit more,” she explained. “Aside from that, I would say grasping the more complex parts of legal theory but that came with just practice.”

The Academy, Emily said, was critical in preparing her for the role. “It really sets you up well for when you begin to take your own files, as you have all of the base knowledge you need, and then it is just about applying it. It was a really good mix of practical tasks and theory, and helps you to build your confidence before you begin taking your own files.”

To anyone considering applying, Emily has a simple message: “Definitely do it.”

“I think the academy is a great opportunity to progress within the company. You get to increase your knowledge, learn new skills and meet so many new people.”

Movera is proud to support career-focused employees like Emily with pathways that recognise potential, reward growth and open doors across the business.
