What do you like to do outside work?
I love to go to music festivals, gigs. I’m big on Glastonbury and going to Manchester to whatever gigs I can drag my boyfriend and friends along to.
I’ve been with ONP for 12 years. I was straight out of university when I joined, with a law degree from Sheffield University. I started as a conveyancing assistant, so I was helping one case manager that had files. Locality was a huge draw at the time and that it was such a large law firm in the industry even then. There were 50 people working in conveyancing alone then. Now it’s 400. Stockport is our largest office.
I’ve enjoyed good career progression here. I also qualified as a licensed conveyancer in summer 2020. This two-year course was paid for by the firm.
What’s your role?
My role involves the development and supervision of my 10 team members. So, they have their own caseload, and I will help with any questions and legal problems. I’ll help with signing off things if anything is outside their capacity, I train my team and deal with targets, milestones and helping them hit their bonuses.
What do you like best about the job?
The people. That’s the reason I’ve stayed so many years. In my role presently I really enjoy developing people, both personally and professionally because being a manager is being like a counsellor as well! Knowing I’m there for them in and outside work and the respect I get for that. Everyone tries to help here, and no one is throwing anyone else under the bus – everyone wants to do the best they can and the best for each other and it’s nice to be part of that. There’s no blame culture here.
What are the bonuses and benefits like?
There are so many opportunities to get bonuses for the fee-earners. There are monthly bonuses, based on the exchanges target, quarterly bonuses- based on customer services and post-completion quality. There are also annual targets based on billing. There are lots of opportunities which are independent of each other.
I really like the care the firm takes over everyone’s mental and physical health. We’ve got a rewards scheme whereby people can be nominated by other members of the department and the wider firm for values – they could get a £50 voucher towards rewards on the website, for example a B&Q voucher or a dinner somewhere nice.
How does Movera’s technology support you in doing your job?
We have a wonderful IT team – it’s probably the biggest in comparison with a lot of our competitors. It’s for the whole of Movera and its large – there are a lot of people we can go to in the IT department.
We have a specific team purely for the development of our Visual Files – we’ve probably got the most advanced Visual Files out there. The Visual Files case management system itself is amazing. We wouldn’t be able to do the volume of work we do without the benefits it gives. It saves a lot of time and makes life so much easier for us. We have AI integrated with the Visual Files. Our system will do a first glance over a contract approval we may have. We are always going to do the legal work itself, but the system provides a traffic light system which tells us if there are any issues. It’s never going to do the work for us, and we want to give the work the personal, human touch. But it speeds things up, it’s easy to use and integrated into our workflow.
